Shruti Rana has been named assistant vice chancellor for inclusive excellence and strategic initiatives for the Division of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity, effective Sept. 18.
In her role, Rana will oversee the Office of Inclusive Excellence and Strategic Initiatives, which provides program assessment, educational resources, faculty support and professional development to the campus and works with the greater Columbia community.
“We strive to develop and apply cutting-edge research, knowledge and practices to build a supportive environment where all members of our community can thrive and flourish,” Rana said. “The University of Missouri is a leader in developing the communities, competencies and knowledge that allow our faculty, staff and students to learn, grow and succeed at Mizzou and beyond.”
Rana previously served as senior assistant dean for curricular and undergraduate affairs and diversity officer at the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies, Indiana University Bloomington, where she was also a professor and director of the International Law & Institutions Program. A legal scholar, Rana is widely published in the areas of international law, global governance and equality, and has been a primary investigator on several major grants, including most recently a multinational collaboration under an Australian Discovery Project grant.
“I am thrilled Shruti is joining IDE,” said Maurice Gipson, vice chancellor for inclusion, diversity and equity. “Her vast experience at fellow AAU institutions and her successful track record of advancing critical campuswide initiatives make her an excellent addition to the Mizzou community. Shruti will work with both the campus and broader community to help us meet existing needs and assist us in providing meaningful resources that support faculty, staff, students and community members.”
