Mizzou recently renewed its 20-year partnership with Gyeongsang National University (GNU) in South Korea during a campus visit from a delegation from the university.
This international collaboration has resulted in nine International Joint Symposia in Plant Biotechnology being held since 2006, two GNU students participating in a dual degree PhD program in Plant Sciences at Mizzou, and several GNU students earning a master’s degree from College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources through the Collaborative Academic Program.
“This long-standing relationship reflects a shared commitment to academic excellence, global engagement, and developing programs that benefit students and researchers at both institutions,” said Sang Kim, director of the Asian Affairs Center.
Provost Matthew Martens met with GNU President Jin Hwe Kweon for the signing of the renewal agreement on August 4 and delegates from GNU were hosted by the Asian Affairs Center for a campus tour. Tuesday, they met with faculty from the College of Engineering and Bond Life Sciences and toured several of their labs.
“The MU-GNU partnership continues to thrive through meaningful collaboration in life sciences and is now expanding into aerospace engineering,” said Kim, “Our joint efforts are creating valuable opportunities for GNU undergraduate students to pursue advanced degrees at MU, while also fostering new faculty research collaborations.”
They discussed establishing a Collaborative Academic Program for GNU aerospace engineering undergraduate students to study their senior year at MU and continue on to complete a master’s degree at Mizzou. Also discussed was expanding the International Joint Symposia in Plant Biotechnology to include aerospace engineering and related fields in future years.
