Faculty Entrepreneur of the Year Award

(Intercampus Competition)

Purpose

To honor a University of Missouri faculty member for a record of entrepreneurial innovation that demonstrates commercial utility, contributes to the public welfare, and brings visibility to the University of Missouri. Examples may include the receipt of a patent that represents an important scientific breakthrough, a significant contribution to the public good, or significant economic value; involvement in the launch of a start-up company; significant contributions to student entrepreneurship; and others.

Award

The award is for $15,000, which may be distributed between a cash award and/or being placed in a nonrestrictive campus account.

Eligibility

Nominees must be full-time faculty members who have been employed by the University of Missouri for at least five years prior to September 1, 2007. Each UM campus may submit up to two nominations.

Nominations

There is no standard format for nominations. Nomination packages will not be returned to the campuses. Do not place the nomination package in a hard binder.

Nominations should include the following:

  • A cover letter summarizing the nominee's entrepreneurial accomplishments
  • Current curriculum vita
  • Other supporting evidence of entrepreneurial innovation
  • No more than 15 reference letters. Please include a list of those submitting reference letters. This list should include each reference's relationship to the nominee and any information about each reference's qualifications that may be helpful to the Committee
  • A one-page personal statement from the nominee that summarizes his/her entrepreneurial/creative objectives is also required

Submissions

Deadline: January 7, 2008 (or closest business day)

Nominations and supporting materials must be submitted by the Divisional Dean. Submit an electronic version as an email attachment to umcprovostawards@missouri.edu, naming each document starting with the applicant's last name followed by a document reference (i.e., Jones-Entrepreneur application). Send only the original copy of the entire proposal packet to:
