Committees

Advising Council

The charge to the Advising Council is to make recommendations to the Provost and Undergraduate Deans regarding academic advising of undergraduates at MU, including the definition, interpretation, implementation and coordination of University Policies; identification of inconsistencies in the application of those Policies; recommendations regarding improvement of advising policies and procedures; and assessment of existing and development of new information about undergraduate advising on the world wide web. The committee makeup consists of a single representative from every academic advising unit that awards a bachelor's degree, one representative of the University Registrar, one representative of the Total Person Program, one representative from Advisors Forum appointed by and reporting back to the Executive Committee of that group, one student representative of the Missouri Students Association, and Director of Academic Advising in the Student Success Center, Chair. Membership recommendations are made by the Dean, Undergraduate Dean or Director of that Division. Campus Committee on Faculty Responsibility

This committee may be convened to review and make recommendations to the Provost and Chancellor regarding alleged cases of faculty irresponsibility that have not been resolved at the divisional level. Thirteen faculty members serve on this committee, and membership recommendations are made by Faculty Council. Campus Faculty Committee on Tenure

The Campus Faculty Committee on Tenure will be convened only in cases where a tenured member of the faculty is being considered for dismissal for cause. Committee members are elected by divisions and there are 13 members. Campus Promotion and Tenure Advisory Committee

This committee serves in an advisory capacity to the Provost and makes recommendations on the awarding of promotion and/or tenure. Nine full professors serve on the committee. Membership is determined by Faculty Council and the Provost. Committee on Undergraduate Education (CUE)

The Committee on Undergraduate Education has the responsibility for the implementation of the campus-wide general education program. The committee is composed of elected representatives from the ten undergraduate divisions, as well as three Student Advisory Council representatives. Faculty Development Advisory Committee

This committee reviews proposals for Development Leaves and for the Faculty Development Project Awards. The committee advises the Provost on these matters and recommends funding priorities. Recommendations for membership are made by Faculty Council, and there are 9 members. Grievance Resolution Panel

Potential grievants should email questions to the Faculty Council appointed Grievance Resolution Panel (GRP), email: GRP@missouri.edu. Honors Council

The Honors Council is a faculty/student committee that advises the Director of the Honors College and the Office of the Provost on goals and policies of the Honors College. The Council approves academic policies and procedures (Honors College admission, retention, and participation; courses, honors certificates, and degrees) for the College. The College and its Council are charged with increasing the educational quality and opportunities available to the most talented undergraduate students on the campus. Membership is solicited from the academic divisions each winter semester. There are 12 faculty members and 3-4 students on the committee. Research Responsibility Committee

Section 420.010.B of the Collected Rules & Regulations of the University of Missouri provides that each campus shall have a standing committee to hear charges of research dishonesty. The MU Committee on Research Responsibility is that committee on this campus. The committee is composed of nine faculty members and an alternate elected by divisions. The committee is divided into groups of academic divisions. Group A provides six members who serve terms of three years. Two members are from the College of Arts and Science. Divisions in Group A who provide one member are: Colleges of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, Engineering; and the Schools of Law and Medicine. Groups B, C, and D provide one member each for one-year terms. The position rotates annually among the divisions in these three groups. Group B consists of: School of Journalism, School of Natural Resources, and College of Business. Group C: College of Human Environmental Sciences and College of Education. Group D: School of Nursing, College of Veterinary Medicine, School of Health Professions. Tenure Probationary Extension Committee

Executive Order No. 26 encourages the appointment of such a faculty committee to review and offer advice on requests for extensions of the tenure probationary period for faculty members who encounter circumstances that may substantially interrupt their ability to make progress toward tenure. Possible reasons include "pregnancy, serious illness, or care of an invalid or seriously ill spouse, partner, parent, child, or other close dependent. Other reasons may be considered. " The committee reviews applications for tenure probationary period extensions in September, February, and June. Membership is recommended by Faculty Council and is composed of five faculty members. Undergraduate Curriculum Committee

The primary responsibility of the Committee is to review undergraduate course (courses numbered 0001-4999), minor, certificate and program proposals and changes after Division approval to verify that the proposal or change does not duplicate, without sufficient justification, a similar course, minor, certificate, or program already existing on the campus. The committee makeup consists of a single representative from every campus unit that awards a bachelor's degree, specifically from these units' own curriculum committee. Advisor's Forum, MSA, the University Registrar's Office and any division which does not currently offer bachelors' degrees will/may have an ex-officio representative. University Faculty Committee on Tenure

The Collected Rules and Regulations of the University of Missouri provide for Campus Faculty Committees on Tenure to be convened in case where a tenured member of the faculty is being considered for dismissal for cause. In addition, there also is a University Faculty Committee on Tenure "composed of two members from the regular academic staff of each campus of the University." This committee can serve "in the place and stead of the Campus Committee where a case is transferred" and "hold hearings involving personnel holding systemwide rather than campus, academic staff appointments." Faculty Council handles the election of faculty members from the MU campus.
